Possets Day 3 ~ Dark Lady

Happy Sunday! It actually has been anything but a happy weekend with all the nasty wind we've been having. Wind is a terrible form of weather, and I do not want to be its friend. It ruins everything from hair dos to what could have been a lovely weekend picnic. Oh, and it also ruins my products photos. Bleh!

Today is day 3 of my Possets perfume reviews! Since the wind has put me in a crappy mood, I decided on reviewing another dark fragrance today- Dark Lady, in fact.

From the Possets website:

This was discontinued at one time, but I found an alternate source for the component which was taken off the market. It was a popular blend and I am glad it's back. When I was a child, I used to have a recurring nightmare of a woman dressed in black walking through a graveyard. She wore and outfit from the 1890's a long dress and a large veiled hat with pigeon wings on it. She had a furled parasol which she used as a walking stick. I could see only her silhouette as she picked her way through the tombstones. I got the definite impression of leather, black finery, heavy perfume, high status, and magnificent sorrow. She is a staple in the Jungian lexicon of characters who appear to sleepers and I made a fragrance which should present her to you just as I saw her as a child. A bright, bitter, dry, chypre-type of a scent, void of sweetness but very beautiful. Lavender, neroli, moss, earth, clove, and a light touch of vetiver. Very refined.

Cold Sniff: Uhh, the imp was hard to open and I ended up accidentally breaking it. Why me?! The lavender is very strong at this point. I also detect the neroli.

Wet on skin: I smell the earthiness to this blend, though the citrus (neroli) note is still there and it's being annoyingly overpowering. I hope it settles down once we reach the drydown. Go away, neroli note! You and wind can be friends on a deserted island where you can't bother anyone anymore!

Drydown: The oakmoss is coming out, making the neroli a bit easier to live with. The clove is also making an appearance now. The neroli is still there though. It doesn't want to leave.

Final Thoughts: As I'm sure you could easily guess, the neroli is what killed this perfume for me. I think I would have really enjoyed this blend sans neroli. It still is pretty, and I really like the concept and the dream behind the perfume. Just not a full-sizer for me. The oakmoss actually overpowers everything else once the perfume settles for about an hour, which I like. But still, I have enough oakmoss perfumes in my stash to be content. :)

Sudden change of subject- mah boyfriend  worked on making me a signature the past couple days, and he's done! If you didn't know, he also made my banner. So here's my new signature!

  1. If there was no neroli in this I would love it! I mean moss, earth and clove, how can one not adore that!?

That´s a great looking signature! Really clever!

    1. I knowww! *shakes fists at neroli* I mean, I don't think I'd mind if it wasn't SO overpowering, but it's just too strong for me in this blend. And I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to store the broken bottle, because it's standing against my widowsill at the moment looking very broken and sad :(

Thank you for the compliment on the signature! He is SO hard on himself and doesn't like it as much as I think he should, but I absolutely love it. I didn't even have to ask him, he just made it for me. I think I'll keep him around :D

    2. How did the vial break? As you might remember I store all my samples standing in film canisters, so if you need it to stand that might be an idea... Or you could just put it in a small siplock bag and squash it between some of your full size bottles so that it stays standing...

    3. Lol it's kind of embarrassing actually, and entirely my fault. I couldn't open it at all. I tried prying it as hard as I could with my fingers and fingernails, but it wouldn't budge. So I tried to take it off with my teeth (lol) and the top entirely broke off, along with some of the glass . . and I'm probably lucky I don't need stitches for being a rere. Thank you for the ideas, I was thinking the same thing about the ziplock bag. :)

    4. Somties sample vials are ridiculously difficult to open. All my Alkemia samples literally hurt to pry open, but I haven´t broken one yet! :)

  2. I've had a hard time opening every other Possets imp. Some are hard and some are easy, it's weird.

    1. They are a pain in the butt! I find that using a thin cloth of some kind and twisting them back and forth gently gets them open, but I'm always scared I'm going to break one. I think that's in response to an issue from a couple of years ago when the Possets vials often leaked. I actually stopped buying them for a while for that reason.

    2. A plain in the butt indeed! Thank you for the tips on opening their imps. I'll definitely try that out tomorrow with my last Possets review :D I feel bad for the owner, she tried to prevent leaky imps and it backfired with impossible to open imps. That stinks!
