MOAR Valentine Scents ~ Be Mine and Be True

I thought I'd shop my stash for more Valentine scents to stay in the theme of the current month! I knew I ordered these solid scents from last year's Valentines Day offering at One Hand Washes The Other, so I'm going to let them be a pair in this blog post and hope they play nicely! The scents I am referring to are Be Mine and Be True. Let's take a peak at the official OHWTO scent descriptions.

Be Mine: Slightly different from the 2011 version, but essentially the same- It's a spicy/fruity/vanilla smell, definitely on the feminine side, but I don't see why the right male couldn't pull this off. It's got florals and greens but not a ton- just enough to move it out of the "I smell like food" category. Be Mine is the smell of a thousand heart-shaped cinnamon red-hots sprinkled liberally on buttercream-frosted cupcakes, accompanied by a bowl of punch, cups of coffee and tea; all served at an antique wooden table laden with roses, jasmine and orange blossoms; the perfect Valentine's Day afternoon teatime treat.

Be True: New for 2012, Be True is a romance-inducing blend of bouquets of Baby Roses, gifts of White Chocolate, luscious Raspberries and a hint of Sandalwood to hold it all together. A floral scent tempered by sweet berries and soft chocolate notes.

Be Mine and Be True solid scents with more of my miniature bears to keep them company c:

Be Mine
I knew going into this purchase last year that I was not a cinnamon girl, but I was also (let's be real- I still am) a perfume noob and was willing to try new things. I smell cinnamon and tea upon initial application- and the combination is actually quite charming! I am a huge tea fan, whether it's in my perfume or my tea cup. After about 5 minutes, I smell what I think is the wooden table this Valentine Tea Party is hosted on. I love wood notes, so that is not a bad thing! I have a hard time pinpointing certain notes in this one. I like the description and premise of it, but this scent was never really my favorite and unfortunately, never received much love from my wrists. Now that I'm wearing it, however, I like it a lot more than I remember. The tea comes back strong after awhile, which I love! You can't have a tea party without tea!

Be True
I recall liking this one a lot more than Be Mine, but now I am finding the opposite is true. I really want to like this one, but it smells really artificial on me. It calms down during the dry down and becomes a lot more likeable, like roses and white chocolate! It is very pretty and romantic. I know some perfumes need some time to calm down on the skin before they start behaving nicely, and I think this is one of them. At least, it is on me! This one smells like a romantic Valentines Day date with roses, white chocolates, and fresh fruit all playing nicely. Perhaps the artificial smell at the beginning was a brisk lover's quarrel before things settled down and the date began, haha! ;)

I'm pleasantly surprised with both Be Mine and Be True. I never remember liking either one of them enough to click my heels together, but they're actually both really nice. They're not my favorite scents in my perfume hoard, but they're both very pretty in my opinion :)

I hope you all have a very wonderful weekend! Tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday. Though I am not big on football, my dad is an ex-football player so it's a big deal in their household. My parents are having us over, so it should be fun!

Until next time, take care of yourselves, and smell pretty!

  1. Valentine scents are so not my thing! They are pretty, but too girly for me... I avoid most feminine perfumes... Out of these two I might enjoy Be Mine but it´s not one I would choose to sample.

    1. Valentine scents aren't for everyone, that's for sure :) I definitely didn't think these would be your cuppa tea, so to speak! Good thing there's lots of different kinds of perfumes to suit everyone's taste :)

BTW, I started my perfume notebook today! I only made a list of the perfumes I own. I still need to add the scent notes to them and also my list of scents and companies to try :) Thanks again for the awesome idea!

    2. Autumn/winter scents are more my kind of thing, resiny and spicy scents... but I´m not very fond of stereotypical Halloween or Holiday scents. I think we have the fondness for graveyard and library kinds of scents in common though!

How great that you have started your notebook! I would love to see it!

    3. I definitely think of you when it comes to graveyard/library scents, so that makes sense! Have you heard of CB-I Hate Perfume? He makes a nice library scent. I wrote about it in one of my first posts. It was actually one of the reasons I started this blog; I could only afford the travel size, but I couldn't find pictures on how small/big it was. So I wanted to take pictures for anyone else wondering :)

I'll try to post about my notebook soon! It's kind of cheesy though <3 it's Lisa frank. Definitely not as classy as yours are!

    4. Yeah, I´ve heard of CB-I Hate Perfume. The brand is not in my notebook yet, but it´s going there! The scents sound intriguing, especially Wild Hunt (dark forest scents are so my thing nowadays!) and In the Library! Expensive though, even the 2ml sizes... might have to wait until I have a real income...

    5. I own two 2mL sizes of CB-I Hate Perfume; I am a Dandilion and In The Library. I really love both of them, they're beautiful. But you're right, they are so stinking expensive! Like $15 to $30 for just 2mL! Silly! That's why I haven't purchased any more Scents yet. I definitely need a real income too before I bite the bullet on more CB! Dark forest type of scents are intriguing!

  2. Be Mine sounds like my kind of scent! Love the tea and cake concept <3
I have tested various OHWTO samples and they are really well made perfumes. Don't know why I haven't ordered a full size yet.

    1. Isn't the tea party perfume concept fun? It is really a neat scent. I'm kind of the opposite, as I own WAY too many OHWTO full sizes. I agree that they're well made perfumes. I also like how they're so affordable for an indie company. I just ordered a winter perfume from them and I can't wait to try it!

  3. I love your miniature bears! So cute! I really enjoyed reading your reviews about these scents but I don't think that I would like them on me. Rarely, I do like fruity or tea scents. I still want to try OHWTO someday though!

    1. Thanks hun! Something about miniature things makes me irrationally happy, haha.

I'm not usually a fruity scent person. I do try them from time to time just to be open minded though.

I love OHWTO! Their TAT kind of sucks though. I just learned from Dee that grape seed oil only has a shelf life of 6-8 months. And their solid scents have grape seed oil in them!!! I was so sad because I have so many of them. But these didn't smell weird, so maybe they're not expired yet. I don't know! They are only 4 or 5 dollars for a full size solid scent and 10 dollars for 5ml perfume oil, so their prices are pretty good. I definitely recommend their perfumes and black magic soap!

  4. I definitely need to get some more solid perfumes. They are easy to bring with you in your purse and such for touchups!

    1. Solid perfumes are so much more convenient, and you don't have to worry about the perfume oil spilling! I remember being thrilled when I got my first solid scent because it was the perfect size for my purse or pocket :)
