The nail polish I chose to wear today started off as a sad story. In 2009, OPI released an incredible holiday collection called Holiday Wishes. The polish I wanted the most from that collection was called Dear Santa, and I eventually found it at Ulta. Unfortunately, I have a Bella Swan level of clumsiness, and I dropped the Ulta bag before I opened the door to get in my house.Dear Santa literally exploded in the bag. I was so sad because I knew it was the last bottle in stock. I went back to Ulta, and they actually let me exchange Dear Santa for Crimson Carol (even though it was my fault for dropping it).
Crimson Carol must have some sort of magical Christmas resistance to thickening over time, because I bought it in 2009 and have not had to add any thinner. I painted my nails this morning, almost four years after purchasing it, and the consistency was perfect.
Below are the swatches of Crimson Carol on my nails. I used Orly Bonder as a base coat, three coats of OPI Crimson Carol, and Sally Hansen Dries Instantly top coat.

Super pretty color...I have a dreadful nail biting habit though so all I can do is admire the polishes from afar. That is sad about dropping the first polish. A month or so ago my local Aldi store (do you have those in Vegas?) had these amazing sounding pancake syrups on special buy (like apple butter and pumpkin spice syrups!) and I bought one, and as we're bringing the bags inside, somehow one breaks and the glass jar shatters all over the sidewalk...syrup and glass everywhere! And of course by the time we went back a week later, since it was a special buy they were all sold out. Yes, a sad, sad day. I feel your pain!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like the color! I didn't really get into nail polish until about 5 years ago because I kept my nails so short for playing guitar. So I definitely know what you mean about not wanting to deal with painting your nails when you bite them or when they're shorter. Not that my nails are long by any means, haha!
DeleteI'm sorry to hear about dropping the flavored syrup, that's awful! I do not think we have Aldi here in Vegas, at least I have never seen one here. Is it like a specialty grocery store?

Aldi is not really as much a specialty store as a super budget friendly chain. They carry mostly their own brands but sometimes get "special buys" of name brand or seasonal items. Actually they're owned by the same company as Trader Joe's, so some of their products are similar. They keep prices really low by having customers bag their own groceries and "renting" carts for a quarter. They used to be sort of depressing and carried only really generic products, but the quality has gone up a lot and they have started carrying much more interesting items, like those syrups *sob*.
